Mr Mohammed Boussaid in Washington to promote Morocco

A Moroccan delegation, led by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Mr Mohamed Boussaid, visited on March 13-14, 2018 the headquarters of the World Bank (WB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington to promote Morocco's candadacy to host the 2021 Annual Meetings of WB and IMF.

This visit features a series of meetings between the Moroccan delegation and administrators as well as senior officials of the two institutions.

On this occasion, Mr Boussaid indicates that Morocco has all the assets and guarantees to host such a huge event, notably its stability and the security it enjoys, the performance of its economy, its growth and development prospects, its important infrastructure and the important know-how developed by the Kingdom in organizing major international events as the COP22 in November 2016.

The Minister also stressed that this prestigious event has not been organized in the African continent for more than 40 years, and it is time for Africa to have the honor of hosting it.

The Annual Meetings of the Group of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund are held every two years outside the United States to review the activities of the two institutions and to discuss topical issues, including the international juncture, the development and financing of economies and the fight against poverty and social inequalities.

The 2021 edition is expected to see the participation of more than 14,000 personalities including Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors from all 189 member countries of these institutions as well as representatives from the private sector, NGOs, and academia. It should be noted that the host country selection process for the 2021 Annual Meetings will be completed in the next few weeks and that the nominated country will be formally announced during the Annual Meetings to be held in Bali, Indonesia in October 2018.
