The Minister Participates at the First Annual Conference on Investment in Morocco

The first annual conference on investment in Morocco was held on Monday, November 9th, 2009 in London with the participation of a large Moroccan ministerial delegation and more than 400 policy makers, professionals and British traders. Mr. Salaheddine Mezouar, the Minister of Economy and Finance, stated in this manifestation that Morocco is an emerging economy firm, located in a region with high growth potential and presents significant opportunities of business in various fields.

In this sense, the Minister pointed out that Morocco, despite a difficult international situation, fulfilled, from 2000 to 2008, a strong and diversified growth based on healthy macroeconomic fundamentals. This growth, he added, remains driven by a growing domestic demand and reinforced with an acceleration of the dynamics of investment.

The Minister also added that Morocco has been able to maintain low and stable inflation, which settled only in 1.8% between 1996 and 2009 against 6.2% between 1990 and 1995.

Moreover, Mr. MEZOUAR highlighted the substantial increase in public savings which represented 32.4% in 2009 against 30.4% in 2000. This has ensured a better financing of the economy, supported by banking sector and Flourishing financial markets.

In addition, the Minister notified the participants at the conference of the sectoral development strategies implemented by Morocco, namely the Azur Plan, 2020 Vision, the Emergence Plan, the Green Morocco Plan, etc...

This conference is part of the efforts made by Morocco to strengthen its economic cooperation and trade relationships with the United Kingdom and attract more British investments into the Kingdom.

This conference, Organized jointly by the Embassy of Morocco in Britain and the department of Lord Mayor of the City (London`s financial district), reviewed several issues, notably the economic growth in Morocco which is characterized by a difficult international situation, the development of Moroccan industries and the opportunities offered by Morocco in the energy field.

Besides the Ambassador of Morocco to the United Kingdom, Participants in this event included the Ambassador of Morocco to the United Kingdom, Chrifa Lalla Joumala Alaoui, Mr. Taib Fassi Fihri, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Mr. Salaheddine Mezouar, Minister of Economy and Finance, Mr. Ahmed Reda Chami, Minister of Industry, Trade and New Technologies, Ms. Amina Benkhadra, Minister of the Energy, Mines, Water and Environment and Mr. Serge Berdugo, Goodwill Ambassador of HM the King.
