Moroccan German Agreement on Financial Cooperation 2008-2009

On April, 24th 2009, Mr. Salah Eddine Mezouar, Minister of Economy and Finance, and Mr. Ulf Dieter Klemm, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany signed at the Ministry`s headquarters in Rabat the Moroccan German agreement on financial cooperation for the period 2008 - 2009.

Mr. Mezouar spoke highly of Moroccan German financial cooperation. He expressed satisfaction with the regular, efficient and diverse financial support Germany provides for Morocco. Indeed, Germany has contributed to the country`s development by concentrating on domains of paramount importance.

The amount of 83.5 million Euros (over DH 900 million) has been allocated to Morocco within the framework of this agreement. The said amount will be used towards financing programs and projects in domains of much importance to the government. Programs and projects include clean water supply, sewage system, electricity supply for rural areas and micro-finance.

Mr. Mezouar has called for further consolidation of financial support from Germany through an increase of the amount allotted to Morocco, donation or concessionary rate loans. The scope of Germany`s intervention could thus be broadened in programs scheduled for the period 2010-2011.

For his part, His Excellency, Ambassador of Germany, expressed the interest of German authorities in financial collaboration with Morocco. He described this collaboration as exemplary and indicated that Germany considers Morocco as one of its favorite partners.

Both the minister and the ambassador spoke highly of relations between their respective nations and expressed their determination to strengthen these relations further.
