Opening session of the annual meetings of Arab financial institutions in Syria

Mr. Salaheddine Mezouar, Minister of Economy and Finance, chaired Wednesday, April 6th 2011 in Damascus, the ceremony of the opening session of the annual meetings of Arab financial institutions.

In his speech, the Minister stressed the important role played by the Arab financial institutions in the economic and social development and the consolidation of Arab economic integration.

He also called on the Arab financial institutions to consolidate joint Arab action by funding development projects in the Arab world.

Alongside these meetings, the Minister, heading a large delegation from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, held meetings with the presidents and heads of the Arab and Islamic financial institutions delegations on how to boost bilateral relations.

The Minister also signed with the president of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) a security agreement for additional funding to a total value of DH 220 million to help finance a power plant project in Kenitra.

Were present at these meetings: The Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (FADES), the Arab Monetary Fund (AMF), the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), the Arab Investment Guarantee Corporation (OAGI) and the Arab Forum for Investment and Agricultural Development (IAIDA).

The Minister also attended the Council meeting of Arab finance ministers and the meeting of the Supervisory Board of the special account for financing small enterprises in the private sector in Arab countries.
