​The ceremony was also attended by Mr. Achraf TARSIM, Head of the AfDB Country Office in Morocco, Mr. Adel EL FAKIR, Director General of the National Airports Office (ONDA), as well as Mr. Saïd JABRANI, Director General of the National Company for Enterprise Guarantee and Financing (SNGFE).

In her speech, the Minister thanked the President of the AfDB for the Bank’s continued support to the Kingdom and its assistance with structural reforms and projects. She also welcomed the use of the SNGFE guarantee for loans to public enterprises and stressed the importance of pursuing joint efforts between the Moroccan authorities and the Bank with a view to developing new and innovative financing mechanisms.

For his part, Mr. Sidi OULD TAH commended the quality of the partnership between Morocco and the AfDB and highlighted the strategic nature of this operation, which will help strengthen the Kingdom’s position as a regional air and logistics hub connecting Africa, Europe and the rest of the world. He also reaffirmed the AfDB’s commitment to continuing its support for Morocco in implementing its structural projects and achieving its ambitions in infrastructure, connectivity and development.

 

 

 

PEMIA at a glance

Financed by a EUR 270 million loan from the AfDB to ONDA, the Airport Infrastructure Expansion and Modernization Programme (PEMIA) aims to increase capacity and modernize the infrastructure of the airports of Marrakech, Agadir, Tangier and Fez, in order to accommodate the growth in air traffic through 2030. In particular, it provides for the expansion and renovation of terminals, the development of aircraft parking aprons and taxiways, the construction of a new control tower in Marrakech, as well as the modernization of security equipment and baggage handling systems.
