During a ceremony held on the morning of Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Mrs. Nadia FETTAH, Minister of Economy and Finance, awarded the Order of Ouissam Alaouite (Commander rank) to Dr. Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser, President of the Islamic Development Bank Group.
His Majesty King Mohammed VI—may God assist Him—bestowed the rank of Commander of the Order of Ouissam Alaouite upon the President of the Islamic Development Bank Group in recognition of his unwavering support—since his election to lead the Group—for development projects and programs across the Kingdom's various regions, and particularly in the Southern Provinces. The Minister emphasized that this prestigious honor comes at a significant juncture in the exemplary cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Islamic Development Bank Group, reflecting appreciation for the Group's role in supporting the Kingdom's development priorities.
The Minister also noted that this phase is marked by promising prospects arising from the strategic partnership document for the 2026–2029 period—signed by both parties on July 22, 2026, with a total financial envelope estimated at 2.5 billion US dollars—which is set to give fresh momentum to the cooperation and partnership between the Kingdom and the Islamic Development Bank Group.
For his part, Dr. Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser expressed his deep pride in the high level of royal attention shown by His Majesty King Mohammed VI—may God assist him—emphasizing that this reflects the special interest His Majesty attaches to strengthening development cooperation among brotherly Islamic nations.
Dr. Al Jasser also highlighted the significant economic development achievements of the Kingdom of Morocco, which reflect its status as an emerging economic power and a reliable partner within the broader development community.
In this regard, the President of the Islamic Development Bank Group affirmed the readiness of the Group’s various institutions to strengthen cooperation with the Kingdom of Morocco—in line with the strategic partnership document for the 2026–2029 period—thereby contributing to the Kingdom's dynamic development and promoting the Moroccan development model as an inspiring and valuable example.
The ceremony took place in the presence of His Excellency Dr. Sami bin Abdullah Al-Saleh, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Kingdom of Morocco, alongside numerous senior officials from the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, as well as representatives from the Islamic Development Bank’s regional office in Rabat.
It is worth noting that the Board of Governors of the Islamic Development Bank, during its meeting held in Baku, Azerbaijan, last June, unanimously reaffirmed its support for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s nomination of Dr. Mohammed Sulaiman Al-Jasser to lead the Islamic Development Bank Group for a second term covering the 2026–2031 period. This decision reflects the confidence placed in Dr. Al-Jasser by his home country and the Group’s member states, acknowledging a distinguished career marked by the holding of numerous high-level positions and responsibilities.
It is worth noting that the Islamic Development Bank was established in 1975 as a multilateral financial institution aimed at supporting the economic and social development of its member countries. In addition to the Islamic Development Bank, the Bank Group comprises the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation, the Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector, the Islamic Corporation for the Insurance of Investment and Export Credit, and the Islamic Research and Training Institute.
