As part of her participation, Mrs. FETTAH co-chaired, alongside Mrs. Melita GABRIć, Deputy Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovenia, a roundtable held on July 2, 2025, on the theme: “Safeguarding the Multilateral Trading System and Harnessing the Potential of Science, Technology and Innovation.”
The event brought together government representatives, international organizations, private sector actors and civil society, and featured an opening address by Mr. Pedro SANCHEZ, Prime Minister of Spain.
During her speech at the roundtable, the Minister of Economy and Finance emphasized the importance of preserving a transparent and inclusive multilateral trading system, while stressing the need to reform it to better reflect the priorities of developing countries and least developed countries.
In this regard, Mrs. FETTAH highlighted that the Kingdom of Morocco, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty the King, May God Assist Him, has undertaken several structural reforms aimed at strengthening its integration into regional and global value chains, while ensuring that the benefits of this dynamic also extend to the most vulnerable countries, particularly in Africa, in accordance with the principles of fair and inclusive multilateral trade.
In this context, the Minister stated that Morocco’s commitment to South-South cooperation is reflected in concrete initiatives such as the duty-free access granted to products from African Least Developed Countries and the effective implementation of the Trade Facilitation Agreement.
Mrs. FETTAH also underlined the crucial role of science, technology and innovation in achieving inclusive development, advocating for urgent efforts to reduce the digital divide and for sustainable investments to accelerate structural transformation in the Global South.
Furthermore, the Minister of Economy and Finance took part as a speaker in a roundtable on the theme: “Leveraging the Potential of the Private Sector and Finance,” during which she emphasized the importance of mobilizing greater private financing to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in developing countries. In this context, Mrs. FETTAH presented Morocco’s experience in the field, recalling the initiatives launched by the Kingdom under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty the King, May God Assist Him, notably the “Climate Finance Strategy 2030,” the integration of environmental criteria into public support mechanisms, and the roadmap for aligning the financial sector with sustainable development launched at COP22.
Mrs. FETTAH’s activities during her participation in the FfD4 were also marked by a bilateral meeting with Mr. Henri-Claude Oyima, Minister of State for Economy, Finance, Public Holdings and Debt of Gabon.
During this meeting, the Minister highlighted Morocco’s experience in implementing successful economic and financial reforms, particularly in the area of tax reform and the improvement of the governance of Public Enterprises and Establishments, while expressing the Kingdom’s willingness to share this experience with the Gabonese side.
