Participation of Mrs. Nadia FETTAH, Minister of Economy and Finance, in the 2025 Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank Group

Mrs. Nadia FETTAH, Minister of Economy and Finance and Governor of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) for the Kingdom of Morocco, took part in the 2025 Annual Meetings of the AfDB Group, held from May 26 to May 30, 2025, in Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire).

During these meetings, Mrs. FETTAH participated on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, in the “Governors’ Dialogue” session, which this year focused on the theme “Harnessing Africa’s Youth for Inclusive, Resilient, and Sustainable Development.” This event provided an opportunity for AfDB Governors to engage in an active dialogue on the role of empowering young Africans to drive economic transformation, innovation, and job creation.

In her address on this occasion, the Minister highlighted the efforts undertaken by Morocco, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty the King, may God assist Him, to promote youth employment. In this context, Mrs. FETTAH emphasized several actions initiated by the Government, particularly regarding youth empowerment, including support mechanisms for young project leaders, incentives targeting SMEs, support for vocational training, acceleration of young people’s financial and digital inclusion, and aligning educational offerings with market needs.

Additionally, the Minister represented Morocco at the Board of Governors session dedicated to the election of a new President of the AfDB, to succeed Mr. Akinwumi ADESINA, whose second and final term will end in August 2025. This session, held on May 29, 2025, concluded with the election of Mr. Sidi Ould Tah as the Bank’s new President, following a vote by the institution’s 81 shareholders.

On the sidelines of the aforementioned Annual Meetings, the Minister of Economy and Finance participated in the annual “African Banker Awards” ceremony.


During this event, Mrs. FETTAH received the “Finance Minister of the Year” award, in recognition of her leadership in implementing prudent macroeconomic policies and reforms, under the enlightened guidance of His Majesty the King, may God assist Him, to create a favorable investment climate.
