His majesty king Mohammed VI, may God assist him, presided, Wednesday, December 04, 2024, corresponding to 02 Jumada II 1446 H, over a Council of Ministers meeting at the Royal Palace in Rabat.
At the start of the Council's proceedings, Mr. Fouzi LEKJAA, Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget and Chairman of the 2030 World Cup Committee, made a presentation to his majesty the king, May God preserve him, on the state of progress of the Kingdom's preparations for the organization of this international sporting event.
The Minister reviewed the various phases of Morocco's bid, since the announcement by his majesty the king, may God assist him, on March 14, 2023 in Kigali, of the presentation of the joint bid with Spain and Portugal to host the 2030 World Cup, as well as the Sovereign's announcement to the Moroccan people, on October 04, 2023, of the decision by the Council of the Fédération Internationale de Football (FIFA) to unanimously select Morocco-Spain-Portugal as the sole bid. This triggered an exceptional mobilization to prepare a bid file that met the requirements and prerequisites of FIFA's specifications.
The Minister added that this tripartite bid, submitted to FIFA on July 29, 2024, is the result of a strong and unprecedented mobilization on the part of the working groups created for this purpose, in particular at the level of ministerial departments, public establishments and companies, as well as the territorial communities and local authorities concerned.
The evaluation report on the bid, published by FIFA on November 29, 2024, awarded an exceptional score that far exceeded the requirements, in anticipation of the vote, God willing, to award the 2030 World Cup to the tripartite bid of Morocco-Spain-Portugal, at the next Extraordinary Congress of the FIFA Council.
To meet the challenge of an organization that lives up to the aspirations of his majesty the king, may God assist him, the Minister indicated that, in compliance with the High Royal Directives, a committee will be set up with a broader membership, including representatives of civil society, Moroccans from around the world, as well as African experts.
Mobilization will be further strengthened in coordination with all stakeholders to accelerate the implementation of all strategic and structuring projects relating to the organization of this international event, in particular:
- Upgrading stadiums ;
- Expansion and renovation of airports in the six host cities;
- Strengthening road infrastructures and densifying intra-urban networks;
