Morocco and the French Development Agency sign two agreements worth 150 million euros

The Kingdom of Morocco, represented by Mr. Fouzi LEKJAA, Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget, and Mrs. Quiterie Pincent, Director of the French Development Agency in Rabat, signed, in the presence of his excellency Mr Christophe Lecourtier, French Ambassador to Morocco, Wednesday November 27, 2024, two agreements for a total of 150 million euros, covering two programs:
- Program to support the generalization of compulsory medical coverage, and
- Support program for the Government Equality Plan 2023-2026.
The first agreement, for a total of €100 million, is part of AFD's ongoing support for the Royal project to establish universal social protection, based on the following three pillars:
- Support governance reforms to improve the operation of the Compulsory health insurance (AMO);
- Support equity and strengthen the effectiveness of AMO, taking gender issues into account;
- Reinforce control of AMO expenditure.
The second agreement, worth €50 million, aims to help reduce inequalities between men and women, in all their diversity, through two specific objectives:
- Operationalize and deploy Gender Responsive Budgeting (GRB), including in the territories; and
- Support women's economic empowerment, in particular through support for care economy measures included in the Government Equality Plan III (2023-2026).
At the end of the ceremony, Mr. Fouzi LEKJAA and His Excellency Mr. Christophe Lecourtier, French Ambassador to Morocco, expressed their satisfaction with the level and quality of the cooperation ties between the Kingdom of Morocco and the French Development Agency, while affirming their desire to work towards strengthening them.
