Meeting between Minister Delegate Fouzi LEKJAA and Mr. Ousmane Dione, World Bank Vice President for the MENA region

Mr. Fouzi LEKJAA, Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget, received, Monday May 20th 2024, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Mr. Ousmane Dione, the new Vice-President of the World Bank for the Middle East and North Africa.

​Mr. LEKJAA and Mr. Dione discussed collaboration between Morocco and the World Bank Group, in particular the strengthening of the solid, long-standing partnership between the two parties.

On this occasion, the World Bank's Vice-President for the Middle East and North Africa praised the efforts undertaken by our country, notably in the areas of energy transition and social protection. He also stressed that the World Bank is supporting Morocco in a number of essential projects and reforms in line with the New Development Model.

The World Bank's Vice President for the Middle East and North Africa indicated that the Bank wishes to focus on five priorities, namely climate including water and energy, employment, inclusive growth, reform and innovation, as well as regional connectivity between Morocco and Africa.

The Minister Delegate pointed out that the government is working on a societal project, focusing on human capital, particularly in the areas of social protection, education and health. He also indicated that the government is working to build a strong, structured economy with sustainable, inclusive growth.

In this context, Mr. LEKJAA told the World Bank that Morocco's efforts to promote regional connectivity between Morocco and Africa stem from the enlightened vision of HIS MAJESTY THE KING, may GOD assist him, notably in the Atlantic Initiative, the port of Dakhla and the High-Speed Line.
