Participation of Mrs. Nadia FETTAH, Minister of Economy and Finance, in the Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank Group

Mrs. Nadia FETTAH, Minister of Economy and Finance, headed a Moroccan delegation to Accra, Ghana, to participate in the Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank Group (ADB), which take place from 23rd to 27th May 2022.

The Minister of Economy and Finance, in her capacity as ADB Governor for the Kingdom of Morocco, took part in the Governors' Dialogue this year under the theme “the Bank's strategic outlook for the next ten years”.

In this context, the Governors discussed issues of common interest to the continent, including the priority for agriculture to mitigate the impact of the food crisis and rising commodity prices, energy connectivity, the transition to a green economy, the establishment of a quality health and education system, and investment in projects benefiting women and youth.

The Governors seized the opportunity of this dialogue to invite the ADB, as the continent's financial institution, to adopt innovative financing mechanisms that would enable it to implement, on a large scale, priority projects and programs for its regional member countries through, in particular, the strengthening of its financing capacity, support to the private sector and public-private partnerships.


In addition, the ADB was asked to sensitize the international financial community on the issue of the indebtedness of low-income African countries and to exploit initiatives launched to this effect. On the sidelines of the Annual Meetings, the Minister of Economy and Finance held several bilateral meetings.

During the meeting with Mr. Akinwumi ADESINA, President of the ADB Group, Mrs. Nadia FETTAH expressed her satisfaction with the historical cooperation between Morocco and the Bank. The Minister requested the support of this institution to accompany Morocco in the implementation of its New Development Model and for the implementation of major projects, launched under the high guidance of HIS MAJESTY THE KING Welcoming the progress made in Morocco, the Bank's President reaffirmed the Bank's commitment to supporting the country's economic and social reforms.


The meeting of the Minister of Economy and Finance with Mr. Alain EBOBISSE, Director General of the Africa50 Fund, was an opportunity to examine ways and means to strengthen the cooperation ties between the two parties. During the meeting with Mr. Wamkele MENE, Secretary General of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), Mrs. Nadia FETTAH highlighted the interest of the Kingdom in the implementation of the AfCFTA to take full advantage of the potential of trade on the continent.

On the other hand, as part of the parallel activities, the Minister of Economy and Finance participated in the debate organized by Mr. Kevin URAMA, ADB Vice President in charge of economic governance and knowledge management, on the theme: "Key actions to stimulate inclusive growth and sustainable development in Africa".
