The Minister of the Economy, Finance and Administration Reform, met on Tuesday June 1st, 2021 at the headquarters of its department, with Mr. Simon Martin the British Ambassador in Morocco, who was accompanied by Mrs. Charlotte Beck the economic advisor at the embassy and
Mrs. Jenny Pierce the economic affairs and foreign policy officer.
During
this meeting, Mr. Benchaaboun and Mr. Simon Martin reviewed the state of a
bilateral economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. In this
regard, they welcomed the entry into force, from January 1st, 2021,
of the association’ agreement, between Morocco and the United Kingdom; which,
beyond the preservation of the existing partnership between the two countries,
should make it possible to lay the foundations for stronger and broader
cooperation between the two partners for the years to come.
This
meeting, helped as an opportunity for the British Ambassador to present the
United Kingdom's efforts in the field of climate, as the chair country of the
next Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on
Climate Change (COP26), scheduled for Glasgow in November 2021.
Meanwhile,
Mr. Benchaaboun recalled Morocco's strong commitment to climate and sustainable
development under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI,
which is materialized by the initiatives launched in several areas as well as
the reforms undertaken at different levels (institutional, regulatory,
financial, ...).
At
the end of the meeting, Mr. Benchaaboun and Mr. Martin reaffirmed their
determination to further strengthen bilateral cooperation relations between the
two countries, as well as a partnership, regarding the the fight against global
warming. Among the main subjects of collaboration selected in this context, is
the alignment of the post-Covid recovery, in particular the action of the
Mohammed VI Fund for investment, with the objectives of sustainable development,
the mobilization of the Moroccan financial sector to the implementation of the
Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) as well as the coordination between
the two countries on climate action.
