On the margins of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund spring meetings, which are held virtually from 9th to 11th April 2021, Mr Mohamed Benchaaboun, Minister of Economy, Finance and Administration Reform, held on Friday, April 9th 2021 a meeting with the president of the World Bank Group, Mr. David Malpass. So as Mr. Abdellatif Jouahri, Governor of Bank Al Maghrib, who also participated in the forementioned meeting.
On this regard, Mr. Benchaaboun
congratulated the quality of the exemplary partnership which has long linked
the Kingdom of Morocco and the World Bank group. He subsequently underlined the
relevance of the response measures adopted by the Moroccan authorities at the
outbreak of the pandemic, with a view to limiting the impact of the COVID-19
crisis on the national economy, in accordance with the High Directions of His
Majesty the King.
He also reviewed the main priority
reform projects undertaken by Morocco to promote a dynamic recovery and
strengthen the resilience of the economy, citing in this regard, the economic
recovery plan carried by the Mohamed VI Fund for investment, the work of the
generalization of social protection and the reform of the public sector.
Within this framework, the World
Bank has been invited to further strengthen its financial and technical support, to assist our country in
its efforts to contain the effects of the crisis and to implement its
development program.
For his part, Mr. Abdellatif Jouahri,
Governor of Bank Al-Maghrib, invited the World Bank to provide Morocco with the
suitable expertise, in order to support it in certain priority areas of
development, in particular in terms of the resilience of the national
productive fabric, integration of the informal sector and digitalization.
On his behalf, while emphasizing the
World Bank's readiness to strengthen its support for Morocco's economic and
social development efforts, Mr. Malpass did not miss to congratulate Morocco
for its proactive and anticipatory strategy to mitigate the effects of the
health crisis. As a result, he expressed the willingness of the World Bank
Group to provide financial support and technical assistance to the various
priority reform projects undertaken by the Kingdom of Morocco.
At the end of this meeting, they
reaffirmed their commitment and their common will to successfully organize the
annual meetings of the World Bank and the IMF, scheduled for Marrakech, in
October 2022.
