On Wednesday February 18 at 2 p.m., Mr. Mohamed BENCHAABOUN, Minister of Economy, Finance and Administration Reform held a meeting with Mrs. KRISTALINA GEORGIEVA, Managing Director of the IMF, who is making an official visit to Morocco from 17 to February 20, 2020 as part of the preparation of the next annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank that will take place in Marrakech in 2021 and the strengthening of the partnership with this institution.
During this meeting, the Minister thanked the Director for making Morocco her first stop in her visit to the Middle East, North Africa and Central Asia region, as well as for the ongoing support offered to our country, by supporting the major reforms undertaken, in particular through the Precautionary and Liquidity Line (PLL), to achieve strong, sustainable and inclusive growth.
The Minister also highlighted the major structural reforms undertaken by our country in various fields, especially in terms of sectorial strategies, advanced regionalization, renewable energy, support for entrepreneurship, etc. In this respect, he pointed out that, in accordance with the guidelines of His Majesty the King; a commission had been set up in order to put in place a new model of development for Morocco, capable of reducing social and territorial disparities and ensuring the economic emergence of our country.
As for the Managing Director, she welcomed the progress made by our country both at the macroeconomic and reform levels, and expressed the IMF's commitment to continue supporting our country, in its ambitious reform programs, in an international context in constant evolution.
At the end of this meeting, the two parties expressed their commitment to further strengthen their partnership and work to make the annual meetings of 2021 a great success for Marrakech, for Morocco, and for Africa.
