Visit of a high level delegation of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund: Preparations for the 2021 Annual Meetings

Within the framework of the organization of the Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund, which will be held in October 2021 in Marrakech, a high-level delegation led by Mrs. Yvonne Tsikata, Secretary General and Vice-President of the World Bank and Mr. Jianhai Lin, Secretary General of the International Monetary Fund, visited Morocco, February 14th and 15th 2019

Members of this delegation were received, February 15th 2019 in Rabat, by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Mr. Mohamed BENCHAABOUN, who stressed the importance of Morocco’s experience in hosting such major events and reiterated Morocco's commitment to succeed the organisation of this meeting.

During this event, the members of the delegation, assisted by the Organizing Committee under the Ministry of Economy and Finance, visited the proposed site for the organization of the meeting in Marrakech. On this occasion, explanations were provided to them concerning the provisions and arrangements planned in this context.

To be noted that the Ministry of Economy and Finance developed an action plan to prepare and ensure the success of this event, with the assistance of the government departments and administrations involved.

It should be pointed out that the organisation of the 2021 Annual Meetings will provide an opportunity to present the structural reforms and the different advances made by Morocco. It will also be an opportunity to discuss ways of promoting international and regional cooperation.

The importance of the expected participants, decision-makers and leaders of international finance, international experts and representatives of the major media and opinion leaders, should also help to reinforce the image of Morocco as a stable, open and tolerant country that combines tradition and modernity. This meeting will be an opportunity to focus on the rich heritage of the Kingdom, its ancient history and culture. The organisation of this event in Marrakech should have a positive impact on the local economy, its attractiveness and its tourism-related infrastructure.
