A loan agreement for the financing of the strengthening program of value chains in the agricultural food sector

Mr. Mohammed BOUSSAID, Minister of Economy and Finance and Mr. Aziz AKHANOUCH, Minister for Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, were present, Thursday December 21st 2017 in Rabat, at the signature of a loan agreement amounting to 200.000.000 Dollars for the financing of the strengthening program of value chains in the agricultural food sector. This meeting was attended by Mr. Lahcen DAOUDI, Minister Delegate in charge of Administrative and General Affairs and Governance, and Mrs. Marie Françoise MARIE-NELLY, World Bank Country Director for the Maghreb and Malta.

This meeting was an opportunity for the Minister of Economy and Finance to report that Morocco and the World Bank maintain good relations as can be seen from the support of this institution to a number of structuring projects set up by the Kingdom including the Green Morocco Plan.

The strengthening program of value chains in the agricultural food sector essentially aims at supporting the implementation of the second phase of the Green Morocco Plan, particularly enhancing the upgrading and the marketing of agricultural products and is based , as far as its implementation is concerned, on sector-based agreements “contrats- programme” and agricultural food sector “contrat- programme”, signed April 2017.

This loan agreement seeks to fulfil ambitious goals, such as the increase of the volume of the upgraded agricultural production, in particular through the increase of private investments in some value chains (olive and citrus fruits), the support of private operators to ensure their compliance with quality and health safety standards of food products and the support for the development of innovation.
