The Minister presents the Bill amending the import duty for common wheat and its derivatives and the House of Representatives adopts it

Mr. Mohammed BOUSSAID, Minister of Economy and Finance, presented, Wednesday, May 03rd  2017, during a plenary session in the House of Representatives, the Bill 19-17 amending the right of self- Import duty for common wheat and its derivatives. This Bill was unanimously adopted by the members of the House.

On this occasion, the Minister stated that the Law 19-17 allows the government to increase customs duties on soft wheat from 30% to 135% in order to keep the marketing prices of domestic common wheat constant.

Mr. BOUSSAID thus stressed that the national common wheat is expected to increase to some 49 million quintals this year. He explained that, given the abundant local production and the falling prices on the international market, the preservation of the import tax in force (30%) would have been disadvantageous to Moroccan farmers.

The Minister also welcomed the rapid interaction of both Houses of Parliament, which understood the urgency of this law to protect the interests of farmers
