The Center of Excellence for Gender Responsive Budgeting “CE- GRB” participated, March 20th 2017 in New York in the Side Event organized by the African Fund for Women and Development with the support of the UN Women under the theme " Gender Equality Funding and Women's Empowerment: the GRB to achieve the sustainable development targets and the African Agenda 2063”. The participation in this meeting follows up on the invitation sent by Mrs. BISI Adelye-Fayemi Co-founder of Africa Women Developpement Fund.
This event was also attended by Mrs. Janat Balunzi mukwayua (Minister of Gender, Labor and Social Development, Uganda), Mrs. Cidalia Chauque de Oliveria (Mozambique's Minister of Gender, Children and Social Action), Mrs. Wilhen Cautras Nambia (Secretary general of the Ministry of Gender and Child Welfare of Namibia),Mrs. Agnes Odhiambo (Budget Controller of Kenya), Mrs. BISI Adelye-Fayemi (Gender Feminist Activist) and Mrs. Itedwa Derez-Biggs (East and South Africa Regional Director, UN Women).
During this meeting, Mrs. BENALI Nadia, National Director of the CE- GRB, stressed the increasing experience of the Ministry of Economy and Finance in terms of public finance reforms and support for sector based strategies that involved the issues of equity and equality.
Mrs. BENALI, then, presented the process of integrating gender sensitivity into the programs, projects and indicators of the various government departments, which enabled Morocco to become one of the leading African countries in terms of financing gender equality and the empowerment of women.
The UN Women welcomed Moroccan pioneering experience in terms of gender sensitivity in planning and budget programming and stated the transfer of expertise acquired by the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the creation of the center of excellence as a key element for success. On the sidelines of this event, a number of countries in sub-Saharan Africa (Cote d'Ivoire, Kenya, Madagascar, Burkina Faso, and Namibia) expressed their wish to enter into agreements with the “CE- GRB” for the purpose of ensuring the transfer and sharing of knowledge accumulated by Morocco in the area of GRB.
