The Minister of Economy and Finance, Mr. Mohammed BOUSSAID, and the Director General of the Qatar Development Fund, Mr. Mohamed Ben Ahmed AL MERAIKHI, signed, Thursday, July 21st, 2014 in Rabat, the executive program of the memorandum of understanding concluded between Morocco and Qatar relating to the implementation of the Qatar donation in the amount of one billion and $ 250 million.
The Qatar donation is part of the strategic partnership between the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and the Kingdom of Morocco, implemented as from 2012. It will serve many projects concerning various strategic areas of development.
In his speech, the Minister of Economy and Finance thanked Qatar for having activated the partnership agreement with the Gulf Cooperation Council established in 2012, which reflects the solidity of the historic ties between the two countries and reflects the excellent relations of cooperation between them.
"Qatar’s contribution starts a new era of cooperation between the two countries and aims to achieve the goals expected by exemplary partnership which brings together the Kingdom of Morocco and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries," stated Mr. BOUSSAID.
The Minister of Economy and Finance declared, on this occasion, that the Qatar Development Fund paid a first installment amounting to 500 million dollars under the Executive program of the memorandum of understanding concluded between Morocco and Qatar, to speed up the progress of projects financed by the aforementioned donation.
The Minister also explained that the Qatar donation will enable the financing of several investments in various sectors that have an impact on territorial and sector-based plans. "These projects will have an impact through their contribution to the development of infrastructures and strengthening human resources and, consequently, the improvement of the people's living standards in the beneficiary areas", said the Minister.
Meanwhile, the Director General of the Qatar Development Fund stated that this agreement expresses Qatar’s will to contribute to the stability of the kingdom and its economic and social development through financing several sectors, including health, agriculture and maritime fishing, Social Housing, higher Education and Sanitation Liquid. Mr. Mohamed Ben Ahmed AL MERAIKHI emphasized the quality of the projects presented by Morocco and which will be financed by the Qatar donation and specified that the investments intended by this funding will be carried out within the time limits. "Morocco and Qatar will begin a joint action to ensure the success of these projects and the exchange of experiences in various fields."
Were present during this signing ceremony, the Minister delegate in charge of the Budget, the Minister of Agriculture and maritime fishing, the Minister of housing and urban policy, the Minister of higher education, scientific research and Professional Training, and representatives of the departments concerned by the Qatar donation.
