Mr. Boussaid receives a delegation from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)

The Minister of Economy and Finance, Mr. Mohammed Boussaid , received Tuesday, June 3rd , 2014 in his department, a delegation from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) made up of 11 Directors and this is in the context of their consultation visit to Morocco. This visit is part of the “Board Consultation Visits " organized regularly by the EBRD Board in order to enable the directors of the Bank to enhance knowledge of the political and economic environment of its countries of operations.

During his speech , the Minister was initially pleased with the amount of € 383 million that Morocco benefited from since September 2012 to finance eighteen projects and emphasized the prospects for strengthening the bank’s cooperation with our country , given the status of " countries of operations", which allows Morocco to benefit from the resources of the EBRD.

Mr. BOUSSAID showed his great satisfaction as for the preparation of the “Country Strategy “between Morocco and the bank, which will be part of the EBRD operations in Morocco for the next three years.

"We are pleased to receive this delegation, with whom we discussed several issues relating to public policy , economic reforms and sector-based policies today ," stated the Minister, stressing that the development of relations between Morocco and EBRD are made in the best possible way.s

At this meeting, the Minister outlined the performance of the Moroccan economy and the democratic process in the Kingdom, reinforced by the 2011 Constitution. Mr. Boussaid also highlighted the current priorities of the Government that are restoring macroeconomic balances and further developing sector based strategies. In this regard, he drew the attention of the EBRD directors on major reforms in our country, manifested especially through compensation reform, pension reform, tax reform and the revising of the organic law of the finance act. In addition, Mr. Boussaid gave an overview of the advanced regionalization project as the Kingdom view it.

In addition, the Minister noted that despite the global economic crisis and the ' winds of Arab Spring’, Morocco was able to withstand shocks and emerge stronger. This is emphasized by the position of Mrs. Christine Lagarde, the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, following her visit in May 2014 to Morocco and who congratulated the Moroccan authorities for the results obtained especially in terms of macro -economic balances and encouraged them for the structural reforms achieved.

On his side, the Head of the Delegation of the EBRD Directors welcomed the excellent discussion he had with the Minister of Economy and Finance, which would help the bank to target the areas where it could further operate. "Morocco is a country with several potential and currently develops in several areas," he said, stressing that the EBRD is willing to further support the private sector, contribute to the achievement of inclusive growth and take part in the development of capital markets as well as Morocco’s energy transition. “These areas are currently under discussion within the framework of the preparation of the country strategy between Morocco and the Bank, which is in line with the priorities of the Moroccan authorities.”

​It is to be stressed that the Minister of Economy and Finance is Morocco’s Governor in the Council of the Governors of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
