Mr. Boussaid received Mrs. Lagarde at the headquarters of the Ministry of Economy and Finance

Mr. Mohammed BOUSSAID, Minister of Economy and Finance, received Thursday, May 08th, 2014 in his Department, Mrs. Christine Lagarde, Director General of the International Monetary Fund.

In a press statement, Mrs. Lagarde qualified her visit to Morocco as a friendly visit during which she will review with senior Moroccan officials, the enormous progress achieved. Mrs. Lagarde was very pleased with the economic and financial reforms in the Kingdom and encouraged the Moroccan authorities for the policies and measures adopted.

 

Mrs. Lagarde stressed that the Precautionary and Liquidity line (LPL) considered as an insurance provided by the Fund to Morocco, was not used. She also noted that her institution will further accompany Morocco to implement financial stability and inclusive growth.

 

For his part, the Minister of Economy and Finance reported that Morocco and the IMF established longstanding relations characterized by openness, respect, credibility and understanding.


"The IMF welcomed the Kingdom’s efforts to succeed the precautionary program through the LPL, that has not been used and which served just as a guarantee in the international financial markets", said Mr. BOUSSAID.

 

The Minister also stated that the process of recovery of the financial balances is underway and stressed that Morocco is considered by the IMF as a model for economic and financial reforms undertaken.

 

Mr. BOUSSAID pointed that discussions with Mrs. Lagarde also focused on accelerating economic growth in order to create more jobs especially through sector- based policies, including industrial policy.
