Visit of the Minister of Economy and Finance to the ADB

During a working visit to the African Development Bank (ADB) in Tunis , May 3rd , 2013, the Minister of Economy and Finance , also Chairman of the Board of Governors of the (ADB), has welcomed the support of the Bank to his country in its green growth project.  

    Mr. Baraka urged the (ADB) to maintain its leadership role in the development of Africa, before making a report on the preparations for the Annual Meetings of the Bank , taking place in Marrakech, in Morocco from May 27th to 31st 2013. "These meetings will be a turning point for Africa," he stated. The (ADB) President, Mr. Donald Kaberuka, who received the Minister, welcomed the good relations between the two partners, focusing on the volume and quality of the portfolio that explain why Morocco has been for several years, the first customer of the institution.

As for the theme of the Annual Meetings, "The structural transformation of Africa," Mr. Baraka believes that it is very relevant "for our continent which aim is to play a leading role at the global level." According to the Chairman of the Board of Governors, these discussions will enable to note best practices and define the modalities to initiate this change.

He was pleased with the significant enthusiasm for the Annual Meetings, which "will be a real turning point for Africa."

Addressing the Board of Directors, Mr. Baraka welcomed the good financial results of the Bank and its initiative to establish a fund for infrastructure. The (ADB) is the main supplier of funds in Morocco .It focuses its operations on infrastructure, human development, governance and energy.
