The business model that Morocco chose "is based on the consolidation of the endogenous growth, the diversification of the productive structures and the enhancement of the attractiveness of the country". This isa"growth modelthat cares deeply about sustainability and inclusiveness", said Mr. Nizar Baraka, Minister of economy and finance,Friday, November 16th 2012 in Mellieha (Northwest of Malta).

To face the impact of the economic crisis affecting its European partners, Morocco set up a roadmap for the development of this growth model "that relies on improving the environment business, logistics upgrading and sector- based policies". Many bold reforms are introduced to meet the aspirations of Moroccans, stated Mr. Baraka in his speech during a meeting of the board of directors of the Group of the European people`s Party (EPP).

During a panel on "the consequences of the Arab Spring: a challenge for Europe," Mr. Baraka who was the guest of the EPP Group, noted that this model also takes into account human development through strengthening social action, developing solidarity mechanisms to reinforce social cohesion and improving governance, the respect of free competition and accountability.

In spite of a global economy marked by profound changes, the impact of the Arab Spring and the crisis on the Euro zone, Morocco "maintained its ability to be adapted, modernized and reformed"noted Mr. Baraka at this meeting.

He has, within this framework, reviewed the political and socio-economic activities in Morocco under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohamed VI and which distinguished it in its regional environment. The Minister referred in particular to the unique experience of justice Transitional (the Equity and Reconciliation Commission), the adoption of a new family Code "innovative and progressive" and the entireinstitutional framework dedicated to the protection of human rights.

This performance had an impact on economic and social development of the Kingdomwhich recorded growth rates often higher than the average of the region (around 5%) and a significant decline in poverty, noted Mr. Baraka.

Despite these reforms, "we noted the progress that remains to be performed," he continued, stressing the importance of operationalizing the Deauville Partnership, giving impetus to the Union for the Mediterranean project (UPM) and optimizing the advanced status to serve as a successful modelin the region.

"The Deauville Partnership, the spring program and the new commitment of the EBRD in the region and the revitalization of the UPM, should primarily be translated into firm, ambitious and concrete commitments," he added.

Similarly, the proposed programs under the neighborhood policy in 2013, should determine a sort of "reward for Democracy to support the ongoing process", noted the Minister. The Group of the European people`s party, which includes 270 members and 3 observer members from Croatia, is the largest group in the European Parliament. It brings together the pro-European political forces of the center and the center-right of the various Member States of the European Union.

This two days meeting knows the participation of eminent personalities in panels dealing with: "the completion of the economic and monetary union: towards a European Federation of the state-nations" and the "effects of the Arab spring: a challenge for Europe".
