Signing ceremony of a financing agreement of the national program forsaving irrigation water between Morocco and the European Investment Bank

Mr. Nizar Baraka, Minister of Economy and Finance and Mr. Philippe de FONTAINE VIVE, Vice-President of the European Investment Bank signed, Friday, October 5th2012 at the headquarters of the Ministry of Economy and Finance an agreementto finance the national program for saving irrigation water.  

The national program of saving irrigation water (PNEEI), which lies within the scope of the support for the new Agricultural Development strategy (Green Morocco Plan) aims to mitigate the effects of scarcity of water resources and improve the efficiency of water use in irrigation.

In this respect, the Minister of Economy and Finance recalled that the project, whichfunding agreement has just been signed for an amount of 42.50 million euros (about 467 million DH) relates to the three basins of Gharb, Haouz and Souss Massa and aims:

(i) The modernization of the existing collective irrigation networks;

(ii) support the use of irrigation water efficiency and;

(iii) capacity building.

At the end of this ceremony, Mr. Nizar BARAKA and Mr. Philippe de FONTAINE VIVE welcomed the level and the quality of cooperation ties linking Morocco and the European Investment Bank, while affirming their commitment to work towards their strengthening.
