Signing ceremony with the World Bank of three financing agreements

Mr. Salaheddine Mezouar, Minister of Economy and Finance and Mr. Simon Gray, Director of the Maghreb Department in the World Bank ( MENA region), signed Wednesday, June 8th 2011 at the headquarters of the Ministry of Economy and Finance three agreements concerning:  

   

  • The first Development Policy Loan for Urban Transport Sector (PPD-DU), amounting to 100.00 million Euros, about 1.12 billion dirhams.
  • The first Development Policy Loan to support the Green Morocco Plan (PMV-PPD) amounting to $ 150.00 million, about 1.68 billion dirhams.
  • The gift to finance the Climate Change integration project in Green Morocco Plan development (PICCPMV) provided by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) amounting to $ 4,345,454 U.S. approximately 36.5 million DH.

The reform program for the development of urban transport sector includes concrete short and medium term measures. Its objective is to strengthen the capacity of municipalities` urban transport and provide a regulatory framework and the appropriate technical tools for the success of decentralization.

This program focuses on three main characteristics: improving the governance of the urban transport sector, improving the efficiency of urban transport services and infrastructure and improving the socio-environmental sustainability of urban transport sector.

The second agreement concerns the funding of the Green Morocco Plan (PMV). It`s a strategy for the modernization of agriculture and its integration into the economy at the national and international level.

This funding targets several major projects provided by the (PMV) namely, the integration of farmers in the internal market, improving the socio-economic projects under pillar II devoted to solidarity in small-scale farming, improving farming services and improving the use and management of irrigation water and the planning of irrigation schemes.

The donation provided by the Fund for Global Environment Facility (GEF) relates to the Climate Change Integration Project in the implementation of Green Morocco Plan (PICCPMV).

It aims to integrate coping measure procedures to climate change in projects within the Green Morocco Plan and concerning small farmers in the regions of Chaouia-Ouardigha, Rabat-Salé-Zemmour-Zaer, Tadla-Azilal, Doukkala -Abda and Gharb -Chrarda - Beni Hssen. This is achieved through strengthening the capacity of public and private institutions and farmers.

On this occasion, the Ministers welcomed the level and quality of cooperation relations between Morocco and the World Bank and thanked the institution represented by Mr. Simon Gray, Director of the Maghreb Department in the World Bank (MENA region), for the constant and valuable support they provide to Morocco for the implementation of key structural reforms.
