Meeting of the Minister with the Swiss Secretary of State for Economic Affairs.

Mr. Salaheddine MEZOUAR, Minister of Economy and Finance, received Monday, February 28th 2011 at the Ministry, Mr. Jean-Daniel GERBER, State Secretary of Economy of the Swiss Confederation, who is in an official visit to Morocco heading an important delegation.

Mr. MEZOUAR welcomed the visit of Mr. GERBER to Morocco and highlighted the positive impact of these visits on the development and consolidation of bilateral economic cooperation, which remains below the potential of Moroccan and Switzerland economies.

In this context, Mr. MEZOUAR emphasized the importance of boosting the existing legal framework between the two countries, including the Free Trade Agreement that Morocco has concluded with the European Association of Free Trade Area (EFTA) for the development and deepening of economic relations between Morocco and Switzerland..

According to the Minister of Economy and Finance, Morocco takes advantage of its privileged relationships with the European Union, with which Switzerland has been closely linked as well as the country`s new opportunities offered by the Advanced Status so as to establish partnerships based on complementarity.

Mr. Mezouar highlighted the advantages and opportunities for business and investment offered by Morocco within the framework of its sectoral strategies and focused on the potential offered by Morocco as a production and export platform to European, American and African continents as well as the Arab world.

For his part, Mr. GERBER stressed that his visit to Morocco reflects the commitment of his country to boost Moroccan-Swiss relations and reinforce them to be a vehicle for profitable partnerships with operators of both countries.

After the meeting, the two Ministers welcomed the constructive atmosphere characterising their discussions and the willingness of both countries to promote and strengthen their bilateral cooperation.
