A signing agreement to finance the National Initiative for Human Development support program

Mr. Salah Eddine Mezouar, Minister of Economy and Finance and Mr. Saad Hassar, Secretary of State to the Minister of Interior and Their Excellencies Mr. Eneko LANDABURU, Ambassador, Head of the Delegation of the European Union in Rabat and Mr.Jean-Luc Bodson, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium signed Tuesday, October 19th 2010 at the Ministry of Economy and Finance a financing agreement to support the National Initiative for human development program (NIHD).

The aim of the agreement is to raise this financing program by four million Euros. This concerns the contribution of Belgium to the (NIHD), whose management was delegated to the European Commission which already provided $ 60 million.

On this occasion, the Minister of Economy and Finance recalled the main objectives of (NIHD), which are directed to social deficits, particularly in poor urban neighborhoods and disadvantaged rural communities, promoting activities generating a stable income and employment , providing assistance to persons in need, and strengthening governance and local capacity.

Mr. MEZOUAR also recalled the significant results achieved by the first phase of (NIHD).

Indeed, 22,000 projects benefiting more than 5 million direct beneficiaries for a total investment of 11.91 billion DH, implemented by 11,000 members of governance bodies and support structures.

The Minister of Economy and Finance reported that the Moroccan Government considers launching a second phase for the period 2011/2015, in the light of the guidelines of His Majesty the King, may God assist him in the speech given on the occasion of the Feast of the Throne and the outcomes of the first phase of the project .He also wished that the European Union and Belgium participate in financing the second phase.
