The Organization in Algeria of the 7th session of the Maghreb Finance Ministers Council

Mr. Zouhair Chorfi, Director of Treasury and External Finance (DTFE) represented Mr. Salaheddine Mezouar, Minister of Economy and Finance, at the 7th session of the Maghreb Finance Ministers Council held in March 16th 2010 in Algeria. In a speech read on his behalf by the Director of DTFE, the Minister highlighted the important role of the Maghreb Bank for Investment and Foreign Trade (BMIC) in strengthening the Maghreb economic cooperation.

As such, the Minister also stressed that this meeting demonstrates the participants` strong belief in building the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU), looking continuously for ways to achieve this union`s objectives and answering the aspirations of the people of the Maghreb countries.

In addition, the Minister stressed the importance of balanced funding between countries member and on the need for professionalism and competence in managing the BMICE.

The agenda of the 7th session, which was attended by the Secretary General of the (AMU), Lahbib Benyahia, focused on the BMICE, insurance and reinsurance, tax systems harmonization as well as statistics and customs cooperation.
