Minister of Economy and Finance Participates in the Annual Assembly of EBRD Governors

Mr. Salah Eddine Mezouar, Minister of Economy and Finance, took part in the Annual Assembly of EBRD governors (European Bank for Reconstruction and Development). The assembly was held in London on May, 15th , 2009.

During this assembly, the Minister highlighted EBRD`s favourable reaction in the face of the global slowdown. This institution provided support for countries concerned, and enhanced trade as well as banking activities.

The Minister also spoke of Morocco`s determination to play its role as an administrator within the EBRD and Vice-President of the Council of Governors, and to assess the system this organization has devised in response to the global economic meltdown.

As to relations between Morocco and EBRD, Mr. Mezouar maintained that although Morocco is not an EBRD operation country, it could still call for this institution`s expertise on several aspects, especially those relating to energy efficiency and trade promotion, as well as support plans for small and medium size companies.

Mr. Salah Eddine Mezouar held talks with EBRD President, Mr. Thomas Mirow, on the status of EBRD operation countries as well as possible ways of furthering relations between Morocco and this institution.

*EBRD was established in 1991 with the aim of enhancing transition to a market economy in countries of Central and Eastern Europe and Independent States Community, which pledge to respect and enforce principles of democracy, pluralism and market economy, and to promote private initiative as well as the spirit of entrepreneurship.
