2nd Meeting of the Strategic Intelligence Committee

The Strategic Intelligence Committee held its second meeting on Wednesday March 18th, 2009, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

The meeting was an opportunity to assess the evolution of the economic situation at the national and international level and examine the findings of the Strategic Intelligence sub-committees on industry, tourism, phosphates, money transfers made by Moroccan Residents Abroad. The meeting was also intended to examine the findings of the macroeconomic intelligence group and analyse the pertinent indicators, to follow up on the evolution in all sectors of the national economy, and implement the first support measures to the sectors mostly affected by the international crisis.

The meeting also validated the system of appropriate indicators to be used to follow up on and assess business trends in the sectors in question. The meeting also tried to set up a schedule for the Strategic Intelligence Committee`s meetings, and a precise agenda for the different groups of the SIC.

Mr. MEZOUAR chaired this meeting attended by the Wali of Bank Al Maghrib, the Minister of Energy and Mines, the Minister of Tourism and Handicraft, the Minister of Industry, Trade and New Technologies, the Minister of Foreign Trade, the Secretary of State to the Minister of Home Affairs, and different committee members from various ministerial departments.

The President of the Moroccan Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM), the President of Banque Centrale Populaire, and representatives of banks, associations, professional federations, as well as representatives of the Office Chérifien des Phosphates (OCP) who also attended the meeting.
