Consolidating Cooperation Relations between Morocco and Germany

Mr. Salaheddine MEZOUAR, Minister of Economy and Finance, and Mr. Erich STATHER, German Under-Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development.

Mr. MEZOUAR expressed his satisfaction with the high standard of political and economic relations between Morocco and Germany.

He expressed Morocco`s satisfaction with German financial and technical support to Morocco`s development. Such a support is characterised by regularity, diversity, efficiency and focus on high-priority domains such as drinking water, sewage, rural electrification, environment, vocational training and microcredit.

Mr. MEZOUAR and Mr. STATHER reviewed the financial and technical cooperation between Morocco and Germany and discussed development prospects in the framework of the next Morocco-German consultations to be held in October 2009, to prepare the 2009-2011 cooperation programme.

Mr. MEZOUAR, solicited Mr. STATHER`s support to enhance financial aid by substantially increasing the allocation granted to Morocco and enlarging its field of intervention in the next cooperation programme. He also hoped Morocco would substantially benefit from new initiatives developed in Germany, outside the regular cooperation package.

Mr. MEZOUAR highlighted the dynamic and extensive reforms Morocco had undertaken. He also evoked the favourable context for Advanced Status between Morocco and the EU, which had allowed new cooperation prospects between Morocco and Germany.

Having underlined the importance of Germany within the EU and its crucial role in successfully setting up this economic space, Mr. MEZOUAR invited Mr. STATHER to actively endorse any initiative or project designed to consolidate Euro-Mediterranean partnerships.

Finally, Mr. MEZOUAR and Mr. STATHER expressed their readiness to work together to consolidate cooperation between the two countries and between Morocco and the EU.
