Mr. Sallaheddine MEZZOUAR, Minister of Economy and Finance, presided in the ministry`s head office on October 27th, 2008 a meeting of the advisory committee on insurance.
This board is a consultative body made up of the administration and the insurance sector. It was set up under article 285 of the Insurance Code and includes the following members:
- Five officials from the administration.
- Sixteen delegates from insurance and reinsurance enterprises.
- Four delegates from insurance brokers.
- The director of the CDG (Depot and Management Fund).
- One official from the National Committee for the Prevention against Road Accidents.
- One Magistrate, a legal economy and finance advisor, nominated by the first president of the supreme court.
The meeting was an opportunity to review the situation of the insurance sector since the last session of the board and prospect its future opportunities. The debate centred then on the means to promote the sector and collection of savings.
The board inquired about the advancement of the bill related to catastrophic risks and stressed to his Excellency the minister that such a project has a tremendous importance as it secures goods and people, in the light of the flood that our country has recently witnessed.
During this meeting, it was agreed that a progress contract aiming to promote Moroccan insurance industry needs to be implemented and elaborated in collaboration with the professionals from the sector, the administration.
