Mr. Mohammed Tarik BCHIR, Director of the Treasury and External Finances and Alternate Governor of the African Development Bank Group for Morocco, took part on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, in the opening ceremony of the Annual Meetings of this institution, held from May 25 to 29, 2026, in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo, under the theme: “Mobilizing Large-Scale Resources for Africa’s Development Financing in a Fragmented World.”
This opening ceremony was marked by a Presidential Panel bringing together Mr. Denis SASSOU N’GUESSO, President of the Republic of the Congo, Mr. Brice Clotaire OLIGUI NGUEMA, President of the Gabonese Republic, and Mr. Faustin-Archange TOUADÉRA, President of the Central African Republic, alongside Mr. Sidi OULD TAH, President of the African Development Bank Group.
Discussions focused on ways and means to address Africa’s growing development financing needs in a rapidly changing international environment, as well as on the need to strengthen the role of the African Development Bank in order to ensure a tangible and concrete impact on the living conditions of African populations.
Mr. BCHIR also participated in the first session of the Board of Governors of the African Development Bank Group, during which several documents relating to institutional and financial matters, as well as the strategic directions of this institution, were submitted for the Governors’ review and approval.
In addition, Mr. BCHIR held a meeting with the Treasury Department of the African Development Bank. This meeting provided an opportunity to review the progress of the African Development Bank’s local-currency bond issuance project on the Moroccan financial market, which would constitute the first operation of its kind carried out by this institution in Morocco.
Mr. BCHIR’s participation in these Annual Meetings was also marked by a meeting with Mr. Thierno-Habib HANN, Managing Director of Shelter Afrique Development Bank, during which the two officials reviewed the preparations for the General Assembly of this institution, scheduled to take place in Rabat in June.
Furthermore, Mr. BCHIR held a bilateral meeting with Mrs. Patricia PEÑA, Associate Assistant Deputy Minister of Canada in the International Assistance Partnerships and Programs Branch. On this occasion, the two officials welcomed the excellent cooperative relations between Morocco and Canada and reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthening them in areas of mutual interest.
The two parties also agreed to hold a videoconference meeting in the near future to examine in greater depth the prospects for future cooperation, particularly in areas falling within the remit of the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
