Madam Minister held talks, on Thursday, January 22, 2026, with Mr. Claver GATETE, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), who is on a working visit to Morocco, accompanied by a large delegation from the Commission.
This visit is part of the preparations for the 58th session of the Conference of African Ministers of Finance (COM58), scheduled to be held in Tangier from March 28 to April 3, 2026.
During this meeting, both parties welcomed the excellence of the cooperation relations between Morocco and the ECA and reviewed the state of progress of the preparations for COM58.
The meeting was also an opportunity to express the Kingdom of Morocco’s gratitude to the members of the ECA Conference of Ministers of Finance for the confidence they demonstrated in it during the 57th session of the Conference of African Ministers of Finance (COM57), by entrusting it with the chairmanship of the COM57 Bureau and designating it as the host country of COM58.
The discussions between the two parties also focused on the prospects for cooperation between the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the ECA, as well as on the joint initiatives that could be undertaken within this framework at the continental level.
Also, and on the sidelines of this meeting, Madam Minister, together with Mr. GATETE, proceeded with the signing of the Host Country Agreement relating to the organization of the 58th session of the ECA Conference of African Ministers of Finance (COM58).
For the record, the ECA, whose headquarters are in Addis Ababa, is one of the five regional commissions reporting to the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), to which this institution reports directly. Established in 1958, the ECA’s mandate is to promote regional integration and the advancement of international cooperation for the economic and social development of its 54 member countries distributed across five sub-regions. It has five sub-regional offices, including the North Africa Office, which is based in Rabat.
