Meeting of Mrs. Nadia FETTAH, Minister of Economy and Finance, and Mr. Mark BOWMAN, Vice President of the EBRD

Mrs. Nadia FETTAH, Minister of Economy and Finance, received Mr. Mark BOWMAN, Vice President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in charge of Policy and Partnerships, on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at the Ministry’s headquarters, during his official visit to Morocco, held on June 18 and 19, 2025.
At this meeting, Mrs. FETTAH and Mr. BOWMAN welcomed the level and excellence of the relations between Morocco and the EBRD, as well as the importance of the Bank’s financial support for the Government’s priority programs and projects.
On the sidelines of this meeting, Mrs. FETTAH chaired the signing ceremony of the legal documentation related to a €300 million sustainability-linked loan granted by the EBRD to ONEE, accompanied by €4 million in grants, intended to refinance part of ONEE-Electricity Branch’s short-term debt.
The mobilization of this financing, which underscores the country’s commitment to energy transition, is expected to notably lead to the development of a Decarbonization Strategy for ONEE, which will define the pathway for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement by 2050. This is the first sustainability-linked loan in the energy sector in Africa.
At the end of the ceremony, Mrs. FETTAH and the EBRD officials expressed their satisfaction with the level and quality of cooperation between Morocco and the EBRD, while reaffirming their shared commitment to further strengthen and deepen this partnership.
