The Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget, Mr. Fouzi LEKJAA, took part in an international symposium on "The role of supreme audit institutions in promoting accountability, transparency, integrity and good governance", organized by the Ministry of Economy and Finance in partnership with the Supreme Audit Council, on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 in Marrakech. This meeting is part of a series of events organized by the Kingdom of Morocco in connection with the hosting of the annual meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund in Marrakech on October 2023.
The colloquium opened with a speech by Mrs. Zineb EL ADAOUI, First President of the Court of Accounts, followed by Minister Bruno DANTAS, President of the Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts, the President of INTOSAI, then Mr. Ferid Belhaj, World Bank Vice-President for North Africa and the Middle East and Mr. Jesko Hentschel, World Bank Country Director in Morocco.
This event was also attended by the heads of supreme audit institutions, officials from the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, and national and international experts and players in the field of transparency, integrity and accountability systems.
The symposium aims to exchange experiences and ideas on emerging issues and challenges related to the contribution of supreme audit institutions to improving transparency, integrity and good governance in the public sector.
Discussions at the conference focused on the following three themes:
- Institutional partnerships to improve transparency and public integrity
- Oversight strategies of supreme audit institutions to enhance transparency and public integrity
- Digital transformation as a means of improving transparency, public integrity and good governance.
The convening of this meeting in the Kingdom of Morocco testifies to the confidence and credibility of our country in the field of supreme control of public finances, including aspects relating to mechanisms for operationalizing the principle of accountability. It also reflects Morocco's growing interest in strengthening and protecting the principles and values of good governance, transparency and accountability.
