Blue Economy Morocco program presented at COP27

The Ministry of Economy and Finance took part in the COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh through the Management Unit of the Blue Economy Morocco Program.

During this major world event, Morocco has concluded several partnerships in the field of water, environmental preservation, trade in sustainable electricity, etc.

For the first time, COP27 hosted a Mediterranean Pavilion to raise awareness of the urgent climate challenges facing the region and the innovative solutions being developed. World experts led several conferences and side events on the theme: "Mediterranean coastline, from science to action in coastal adaptation".

The "Ocean Action Day" event was held on November 16. The Morocco pavilion hosted a seminar on "the impact of climate change on the development of the blue economy" organized by the Ministry of Equipment and Water in partnership with the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the World Bank.

The PMU of the Blue Economy (BE) under the Ministry of Economy and Finance presented the progress of the BE development program implemented in cooperation with the World Bank as well as the short and medium term prospects. The Directorate of Ports and Public Maritime Domain (DPPMD) focused its presentation on the importance of developing maps related to the fragility of the coastline to have an integrated geographical system that will facilitate decision-making on coastal development and the upgrading of the BE.

The "Ocean Action Day" was also marked by the launch by the World Bank of a new program entitled "Blue Economy for Resilient Africa Program" (BE4RAP). The aim is to provide an operational response to the development challenges in the coastal and marine areas of the African continent. Coastal African countries can reap the benefits of sustainably managed oceans. This new program will build on successful experiences in Africa such as Morocco's blue economy program, the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

BE4RAP aims to mobilize new support, funding and partnerships to meet the COP27 ambition of having an African continent-wide initiative providing innovative climate solutions, particularly to the blue economy.

The event was attended by the Egyptian Minister of the Environment, the Tanzanian Deputy Minister of the Union and the Environment, and the Deputy Budget Director of the Moroccan Ministry of Economy and Finance, Mr. Youssef FARHAT. Mr. FARHAT presented the experience of Morocco in the framework of the "Blue Economy Program", the various assets that Morocco has as well as the issues and challenges to be faced in relation to climate change.

Mitigation, adaptation and resilience marked the COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh.
