Highlights

Mrs. Leila BENALIi, Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Mr. Jesko HENTSCHEL, Director of the Maghreb and Malta Department at the MENA Regional Office of the World Bank and Mr. Xavier REILLE, Director of the Maghreb Office of the International Finance Corporation, as well as several senior regional officials of the Bank also took part in this meeting.

The Minister of Economy and Finance took this opportunity to thank the World Bank for the support and assistance, both financial and technical, that this institution has provided to our country in the implementation of the priority reform projects launched under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty the King. This includes, in particular, the program for the generalization of social protection, the reform of the public sector and the new generation sectoral strategies.

Meanwhile, the World Bank Vice President for the MENA region welcomed the excellent cooperation relations between the World Bank Group and Morocco, emphasizing, in this regard, the readiness of the Bank to continue its support to the economic and social development efforts of the Kingdom.

Moreover, both parties reaffirmed their common will to succeed in organizing the next Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and the IMF, scheduled for October 2023 in Marrakech.

On the margins of this meeting, the World Bank presented its Report on Climate and Development in Morocco, prepared in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development. In this context, Mrs. Nadia FETTAH and Mrs. Leila BENALI exchanged with the World Bank officials on the main conclusions of this report.

Following this meeting, the Minister of Economy and Finance and Mr. Jesko HENTSCHEL signed a loan agreement amounting to 236.7 million euros for the financing of the North-East Economic Development project.
