3rd Meeting of the National Council for Financial Inclusion

Mrs. Nadia FETTAH, Minister of Economy and Finance, chaired Wednesday, April 13th 2022, the third meeting of the National Council for Financial Inclusion (CNIF).

The meeting was attended by the Wali of Bank Al-Maghrib, the Minister of Industry and Trade, the Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills and the Governor in charge of the Information System representing the Ministry of the Interior. The President of the Moroccan Capital Market Authority also took part in the meeting together with the Acting President of the Insurance supervisory authority, the Managing Director of the Moroccan Banking Association, the President of the Moroccan Federation of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies. The Vice President of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises, the President of the National Federation of Microcredit Associations and the President of the Professional Association of Payment Institutions also participated at this meeting At the opening of this event, the Minister of Economy and Finance and the Wali of Bank Al Maghrib reminded the difficult context of the implementation of the National Strategy for Financial Inclusion during the last two years and the need to accelerate its deployment in order to stay within the time limits.

The Minister also emphasized that financial inclusion remains at the heart of the government's concerns as an essential axis of economic and social inclusion of citizens. The third meeting of the CNIF was devoted to examining the progress of the deployment process of the National Strategy for Financial Inclusion, particularly the monitoring and steering mechanism and the proceeding of the working groups.

Therefore, 33% of the planned actions have been carried out and 40% are being introduced despite the context of the health crisis.

The meeting was also marked by the co-option of the Ministry of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills as a member of the Council.

It should be recalled that the SNIF is based on seven levers, including the strengthening of alternative models accessible at lower costs such as mobile payment, microfinance and inclusive insurance, as well as the expansion of banking services for rural areas and very small businesses. Moreover, it is necessary to stress the importance of taking into account the specific conditions and needs of these segments in terms of access to financial services, information and support.
