Working session between the Minister of Economy and Finance and Mr. Ferid BELHAJ, Vice President for the MENA region at the World Bank

The Minister of Economy and Finance, Mrs. Nadia FETTAH, received on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, Mr. Ferid BELHAJ, Vice President for the MENA region at the World Bank, who visits Morocco from November 9 to 13, 2021.

After having acknowledged the quality of the exemplary partnership that has long bound the Kingdom of Morocco and the World Bank Group, the Minister of the Economy and Finance reviewed the main priority reform projects that will be undertaken by the newly elected government, in accordance with the High Directions of His Majesty the King. These priority areas, which have dictated the main orientations of the 2022 Finance Bill, concern (i) the consolidation of the foundations for economic recovery (ii) the consolidation of integration mechanisms and the development of widespread social protection (iii) the strengthening of human capital ; and (iv) the reform of the public sector and the strengthening of governance mechanisms.

In this respect, Mrs. Nadia FETTAH invited the World Bank, as part of its continuous support to reform projects initiated by Morocco, to further strengthen its financial support to the Government in its efforts to contain the effects of the Covid -19 crisis and implement its development program.

This meeting was also an opportunity to solicit the World Bank, through its expertise and know-how, to accelerate its technical support to our country in certain priority areas, particularly in terms of strengthening the legal and regulatory environment for private equity, improving the efficiency of public finances and developing green and sustainable finance.

While expressing the World Bank's interest in strengthening its support for Morocco's economic and social development efforts, Mr BELHAJ congratulated our country on the new government's determination and its firm commitment to implementing the Kingdom's major priority projects. The Vice-President of the World Bank for the MENA region also expressed the readiness of his institution to provide its support, both financial and technical, to the various large-scale reform projects undertaken by our country.

The two leaders also reaffirmed their continued commitment and their common will to succeed in organizing the Annual Meetings of the WB and the IMF, scheduled in Marrakech in October 2022.
