Signing of a loan agreement to support development policies for financial inclusion and digital economy

The Minister of Economy and Finance and Mrs. Marie Françoise Marie-Nelly, Director of Operations, Maghreb Department, Middle East and North African Regional Office at the World Bank, signed, Tuesday March 14th 2019, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, a loan agreemnt totalling about $700 million to support development policies for financial inclusion and digital economy.

Were present during this event, Mr. Lahcen DAOUDI, Minister Delegate to the Head of Government, in Charge of General Affairs and Governance. This ceremony was an opportunity to focus on the importance, the quality and the diversity of the cooperative relationships Morocco has with the World Bank.

Similarly, he recalled this institution’s continuing support to the economic and social development of Morocco through its financing of major reform programs and large investment projects.

The Minister of Economy and Finance also welcomed the adoption in February 19th 2019 by the World Bank's Executive Board of the new Country partnership framework 2019-2024, established in cooperation with the Moroccan authorities which focus on promoting job creation by the private sector, upgrading human capital, promoting inclusive and resilient territorial development, governance and citizenship, the empowerment of women and girls for shared prosperity as well as digital economy that sustains employment and accelerated growth.

The Minister thanked the World Bank that provided support to development policies for financial inclusion and digital economy. Within this framework, he stressed the importance of this action which will contribute particularly to the strenghthening of financial inclusion and the digital transformation that benefits individuals, businesses and contractors as well as the speeding up of the adoption of digital technologies in order to lead to job opportunities, growth and improved services.

He also pointed out that the World Bank's support for this action demonstrates the confidence and the constant support provided by this institution to the reform process in our country, particularly in the financial sector, in order to provide our country with an efficient and effective financial system able to ensure the financing of the economy in the best conditions.

During this event, the Minister and Mrs. Marie Françoise Marie-Nelly stressed their commitment to further enhance the relations of cooperation and partnership between Morocco and the World Bank.
