Meeting between Mr. Mohammed BENCHAABOUN and Mr. Moulay Hafid ELALAMY with Mr. Bruno LE MAIRE, French Minister of Economy and Finance

On Friday, January 31, 2020 in Rabat, Mr. Mohammed BENCHAABOUN, Minister of Economy, Finance and Administration Reform and Mr. Moulay Hafid ELALAMY, Minister of Industry, Trade and Green and Digital Economy met with Mr. Bruno LE MAIRE, French Minister of Economy and Finance.

This meeting is part of the ongoing bilateral discussions that were held last December in Paris, on the sidelines of the High Level Meeting in order to explore new areas of cooperation between the two countries, particularly in terms of new technologies and energy transition.

During this meeting, the discussions focused on identifying new levers to develop partnerships between Moroccan and French economic players that would improve competitiveness and contribute to the creation of jobs in the two countries.

Mr. Bruno LE MAIRE agrees with the proposals of the Moroccan side for the development of a new joint France-Morocco production pact, mutually beneficial to both parties.

In this regard, the Moroccan side emphasized the importance of boosting the existing partnership between Morocco and France that aims to support SMEs through the "Integrated Program to Support and Finance Enterprises" presented to His Majesty the King may God assist him.

Moreover, both sides discussed Morocco’s relations with the European Union, at which time Mr. LE MAIRE praised the efforts undertaken by Morocco within the framework of the harmonization of its legal system with international tax standards and EU requirements.

In terms of financial cooperation, the two sides welcomed the exemplary quality of this cooperation which has contributed to the implementation of many structuring projects in Morocco.

In this context, the two sides welcomed the results of the work of the monitoring committee of the High Speed Rail Line (LGV) project, established for more than 10 years, which created a real railway cooperation process between the two countries.

At the end of this meeting, Moroccan and French officials reaffirmed their willingness to work together to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in order to live up to the aspirations of the High Authorities of the two countries.
