The Minister of Economy and Finance takes part in the High Level Meeting of the United Nations General Assembly on the middle-income Countries

Mr. Mohamed BENCHAABOUN, Minister of Economy and Finance, participated, Tuesday December 4th 2018 in New York, in the work of the high level meeting on middle-income countries (MICs), that the United Nations General Assembly organized on the needs and challenges of the implementation of the program 2030 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

At this meeting, headed by Mrs. Maria Fernanda Espinosa, President of the United Nations General Assembly, the Minister of Economy and Finance participated as a panel member in an interactive panel on the needs and challenges of the implementation of the (SDGs) in the (MICs).

In this context, he recalled the numerous challenges facing the 109 MICs which represent nearly 70 % of the world's population. At the same time, he stressed the persistence of poverty and the socio-economic disparities within those countries despite the worthy progress in terms of stimulating growth.

In this respect, the Minister highlighted the guidelines of the Moroccan experience regarding the implementation of the (SDGs) within cross-cutting public policies such as the National Human Development Initiative and the various sector-based strategies, particularly, the Green Morocco Plan, the Industrial Acceleration Plan and the Energy Strategy. He also stressed the Sustainable Development National Strategy, that Morocco adopted in 2017 and which objective is a better integration of the (SDGs) in the sector-based strategies.

In addition, The Minister of Economy and Finance made a statement during the plenary session of this meeting, on behalf of the Kingdom of Morocco in which he called for boosting the international cooperation tools for development and the frameworks for global partenership with a view to enhance the support to the (MICs) appropriate to their specific needs in the implementation of the 2030 program for development.

During this event, the Minister restated the commitment of the Kingdom to work for the promotion of an efficient cooperation, within the framework of a strong global partnership, based on shared responsibility, justice and solidarity.
