Business Angels Workshop: Pilot project of institutional support to the development of business angels activity in Morocco

The Directorate of Treasury and External Finance and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) organized, November 2nd 2017 a workshop concerning the presentation of the outcomes of the study on institutional support to the development of Business Angels activities in Morocco.

This project, which is part of efforts to strengthen the financial inclusion of project managers and young companies excluded from conventional financing channels, aims to make an analysis of the current state of the business activity in Morocco to support the development of appropriate devices and instruments for seed financing. Indeed, throughout the world, Business Angels are an important link in the value chain of the entrepreneurial ecosystem.

The workshop, which brought together more than 40 participants from different areas (business angles, lawyers, public institutions, support structures, project managers, funders, etc.) had mainly the following goals:

  • Present the results of the study on the diagnosis of Business Angels activities in Morocco and discuss the main decisions and recommendations;

  • Determine future priorities for the emergence of this category of investors and support a dynamic entrepreneurial ecosystem that promotes job creation and inclusive growth.

This meeting was an opportunity for all participants to gather their ideas, visions and concerns for the emergence of this activity. The results of this workshop will be shared at the regional conference "Venture Finance in the Arab World - Accelerating Arab start-ups", to be held November 20th and 21st 2017 in Skhirat and organized by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the FMA , GIZ and AFI.
