The Minister of Economy and Finance, through the center of excellence for gender responsive budgeting (CE-BSG), was invited to participate at the regional dialogue on the nationally determined contributions (NDC) for Africa against climate change. This event, co-hosted by the Secretariat of State for Sustainable Development, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the German International cooperation (GIZ) and the (NDC) Partnership, took place in Rabat, September 26th, 27th and 28th, 2017. This regional meeting brought together government representatives from all parts of Africa, as well as international bodies and experts involved in the processes of the implementation of the (NDC) made within the framework of the Paris agreement on climate changes. The (CE-BSG) participated at the session on “the inclusion of gender equality in the implementation of the (NDC).
During her speech, Mrs. Nadia BENALI presented the main progress Morocco made in terms of (BSG), as well as the approach within the (CE-BSG) for the implementation of the (BSG) and its role for the inclusion of gender equality in the fight against climate changes.
Mrs. Nadia BENALI stressed the impact of climate changes on men and women that assume different roles in mitigating the causes of climate change. She emphasized the importance of the inclusion of gender equality in the fight against climate changes, the strengthening of women’s role as key actors to find and implement solutions, and the promotion of sustainable and equitable development.
This event was an opportunity to share experiences, good practices and opportunities linked to the challenges of the implementation of the (NDC) in the regions, to determine specific needs in capacity building for a better implementation of the (NDC)with a strong focus on Africa, to debate the regional environment for the implementation of the (NDC) and include issues relating to gender and equity for women's empowerment.
The representative of the Secretariat of State for Sustainable Development welcomed the valuable support of the (CE-BSG) for government departments and asked government representatives from Africa to get acquainted with the Moroccan experience in terms of (BSG).
