The Minister of Economy and Finance is in favor of direct support instead of granting tax exemptions.

Mr. Mohammed BOUSSAID, Minister of Economy and Finance, chaired Thursday, September 8th , 2016 in Rabat, the opening meeting of the Conference organized by ‘the Economy and Finance sector ‘of the National Union of Moroccan Engineers (UNIM ) under the theme: "Tax expenditures: Assessment and Prospects".

In his speech, the Minister expressed his support to encouraging economic actors and activities by means of direct aid instead of granting tax exemptions.

As such, he asserted that in order to reduce tax expenditures estimated at over 32 billion dirhams in 2015, direct aid to economic sectors should gradually replace exemptions, except for those related to commodities.

In this respect, Mr. BOUSSAID used the example of the industrial sector with the creation of the Industrial Development and Investment Fund (FDII). This initiative enabled granting direct assistance to strategic and structuring investment projects.

The Minister believes that it is necessary to elaborate a clear vision and a comprehensive and coherent framework that takes into consideration the economic and social impact of tax expenditures, their evaluation, their strategic importance for development and vulnerability. Hosted by the Secretary General of the (UNIM) Mr. Hassan El Eddez, this event featured speeches by several experts, academics and professors as well as a large debate.
