Mr. Mohamed BOUSSAID and Mr. Moulay Hafid ELALAMY sign four performance contracts for the deployment of ecosystems in the leather sector

​Mr. Mohammed BOUSSAID, Minister of Economy and Finance, Mr. Moulay Hafid ELALAMY, Minister of Industry, Trade, investment and the digital economy and Mr. Hamid Ben Rhrido, President of the Federation of Leather Industries (FEDIC), signed Thursday, February 11th , 2016 in Rabat, four performance contracts to support the deployment of three ecosystems launched in the leather sector.
  
During this occasion, Mr. BOUSSAID stated that the leather sector has several assets enabling it to produce quality products. He sees that the balance of payment will be in deficit this year thanks to the rising of exports including leather sector and the lowering of energy costs.
   
 According to a press release from the Ministry of Industry, trade, investment and the digital economy, the sectors concerned by these four performance contracts are footwear, leather goods and leather garments, as well as the tannery. The objectives of their growth that are fixed for 2020 are the creation of 35,000 new permanent jobs, and the construction of 5.5 billion dirhams of export sales.

 In this press release, it is stressed that the organization of these sectors in functioning ecosystems will give a new impetus to the development of the sector and bring in particular concrete answers to the challenges and deficiencies which still face its actors: gradual loss of competitiveness on local and traditional markets, a prior low competitive advantage despite the availability of hides and raw hides of good quality, threat of leather substitutes , the preponderance of the informal sector in the domestic market, ...
