The Government and Maroc Telecom sign an investment agreement of 10 billion dirhams

The Government and Maroc Telecom signed, Wednesday, January 16th2013 in Rabat, a fourth investment agreement amounting to 10 billion dirhams for the 2013-2015 period, at a ceremony headed by Mr. Abdelilah Benkiranem,Head of Government.   
  The agreement was signed by the Minister of Economy and Finance Mr. Nizar Baraka and the Minister of Trade and new technologies, Mr. Abdelkader Amara and the CEO of Maroc Telecom, Mr. Abdeslam Ahizoune.

This fourth investment program, which will generate 500 permanent job opportunities, seeks to "replace all mobile equipment with digital technology for high-speed Internet.It also covers the extension of optical fiber to users and thus allow an output that go beyond 100 megabits per second?, MarocTelecomCEO reported after the signing ceremony.

"It is a complete and radical renewal of existing technologies resulting obviously in a larger number of users, greater capacity and higher-speed internet, for the benefit of telecom companies and new digital technologies, "he added.

Mr. Amara stated that Maroc Telecom "currentlymadeinvestments to plan its future and facethe wave of traffic and increasing competition".

"The call duration is currently growing. In 2010, we moved from 10 billion minutes in 2011 to $ 23 billion and we reached more than $ 30 billion by the end of 2012, reflecting an increasingly important use" he noted.

Mr. Amara stated that the government expects to strengthen basic infrastructure of telecommunications and develop a number of services related to e-government which is a keyobjectiveof the country.

For his part, Mr. Benkirane welcomed the confidence and the important contribution of the telecommunication group in the national economy, reaffirming the commitment of the team to support investment.

He also noted that, the Government, through this agreement, aims to support the electronic telecom company and to meet the growing needs of citizens while moving up to international standards.
