Examination and adoption of two government bills by the Government Council

The Council of Government, met Thursday, May 4th 2012 in Rabat headed by, Mr. Abdelilah BENKIRANE, head of Government, considered and adopted, among others, two bills introduced by Mr. Nizar BARAKA, Minister of Economy and Finance.
Indeed, the Minister presented a bill 35-12 approving the decree by law 2-12-72 of 14 Rabii II 1433 (March 7th 2012) relating to the extension of the suspension of collecting import duty of durum and soft wheat.

This project aims to ensure domestic supply in these cereals, deal with the shortage of this vital commodity and stabilize domestic prices for wheat consumption, knowing that the price of wheat on the worldwide markets experienced during the first quarter of this year, large fluctuations having led, in general, to the price increase of these products.

The Minister also presented the bill 36-12 approving the decree by law 2-12-125 of Rabii II 22 1433 (15 March 2012) on the suspension of collecting import duty on barley.

This step will stabilize feed prices and prevent speculations in the price of this commodity, in the light of high levels of barley prices on world markets having reached 277 dollars per tonne in March 2012. The suspension of collecting import duty on barley, which is 35%, will stabilize import prices around 268 dirhams per quintal.
